چکیده

Mobility of a phone within a cellular network or of a computer within the Internet has to be managed by the respective network infrastructure: Routes to and from a mobile device have to be changed. In order to base mobility management of future cellular networks on IP, the Internet Protocol, various proposals like Mobile IP are currently being discussed. In this paper, we develop a simple model of mobility management, analyse handoff performance as well as its effect on payload, and explore the effect of hierarchies as well of some handoff variants.

Cost and Scalability Analysis of Mobility Management Entities of NEMO

To support IP-mobility of networks in motion, IETF proposed Network Mobility (NEMO) protocol that uses various signaling messages to ensure connectivity of the mobile nodes with the Internet and to maintain security of ongoing sessions by protecting the binding updates. As the next-generation wireless / mobile network is supposed to be a unified network based on all-IP technology, compounded by...

Performance issues for localised IP mobility management

Base IP mobility presents performance limitations when the mobile host increases its handoff rate between successive wireless points of attachment as a result of its mobility pattern. These limitations are augmented when latency externalities such as the round trip time between the MN and its peers, add to the total of latency and signalling overhead, impeding the performance of the mobility fu...

An Overview of Macro-Mobility Management in Next Generation All-IP Based Wireless Network Infrastructures

Next generation wireless systems are most likely to have an IP based core network. Mobile IP is a proposed standard of the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) designed to assist different mobile users. Mobile IP provides an elegant solution for node mobility when the mobile node infrequently moves. However, it implies a relatively large overhead and delay, due to indirect communications. In ...

An Analysis of Mobile IPv6 Signaling Load in Next Generation Mobile Networks

To date, mobile communication has been dominated by voice services. This is likely to be valid also for the foreseeable future, but at the same time a multitude of data services are also emerging. This trend in mobile communication has fueled the introduction of packet-switched mobile networks, thus introducing the IP suite into the field of mobile communications. This technological shift can b...

A Comparative Study of Existing Protocols Supporting Ip Mobility

In this paper, we have done a comparative study for a set of protocols supporting IP mobility, such as Mobile IP (MIP), Hierarchical Mobile IP (HMIP), Wireless IP, Cellular IP, HAWAII, TeleMIP and Dynamic Mobility Agent (DMA). These IP-based mobility protocols will play an important role in the convergence of IP and legacy wireless networks, within the context of the future 4G networks. TeleMIP...
